Shake in a cocktail shaker full of ice until it is too cold to hold. Pour into a large champagne glass and add a slice of lemon. Note: the original recipe called for 3 parts gin and one of vodka but this way is far better. Also 'Kina' Lillet was specified but this would have been too bitter and besides it is no longer available and was re-formulated in 1985 with less quinine as "Lillet"
